Sustainability

I AIM TO
LEAVE NO TRACE

Our Journey to a Sustainable Future

In the good tradition of nomadic peoples, we do everything in our power to leave as little trace as possible in the nature we love so much. This means that NOMAD® has prioritized sustainability and social responsibility since our founding in 1978. Significant progress is made in this regard every year. We’re not there yet, but on this page, you can read more about where we stand today.

Products

As a producer of travel essentials, we take responsibility for the sustainable production of our products, respecting both people and nature. We aim to maximize social conditions in the countries where we produce. Additionally, we strive to protect nature as much as possible in terms of the production process and the materials we use.

On this page, you can read more about NOMAD and our journey towards a sustainable future.

Sustainability and NOMAD Products

Free repair service

NOMAD® products are designed to last a lifetime. This may not be the most commercial approach, but it is the most sustainable one. If something does happen to break unexpectedly, we cover the repair costs.

Responsible Down Standard (RDS)

NOMAD® is certified to the Responsible Down Standard, certified by Control Union CU847715. The Responsible Down Standard (RDS) describes and (independently) certifies animal welfare practices in down and feather production and tracks the certified down and feathers/material(s) from farm to final product.

Recycled materials

In our collections, all raincovers, stuff sacks, and bag linings are made from recycled materials. This helps us save over 45,000 kilometers of polyester yarn, enough to go around the world!

BSCI

All our manufacturers have the BSCI certificate, which stands for fair compensation, well-organized working hours with sufficient breaks, and creating a clean and safe working environment. Read more.

PFC Free

NOMAD® uses PFC-free coatings & waxes to make products water-resistant or water-repellent. An important partner in this is NIKWAX, a supplier of sustainable wax coatings and water-repellent down.

Nikwax Hydrophobic Down™

A high-quality, fluorocarbon-free, water-repellent down filling used in our top-class sleeping bags. It provides high insulation value, even in cold and damp conditions. Keeping the down dry and free from microbes, this treatment extends the life of the sleeping bag.

Pertex Quantum Pro®

Pertex Quantum Pro® is a fabric with an ultra-thin water-repellent coating for better resistance to extreme weather conditions. We have used this technology in our top-class winter sleeping bags to ensure that body vapor moisture is maximally transported through the sleeping bag’s lining while preventing external moisture and condensation from entering.

DAC® Poles

We exclusively work with DAC tent poles. DAC tent poles are known for their high quality, strength, and durability. All poles used for our tents are Green Anodized, a production process that minimizes water usage and air and water pollution.
