During your sporting efforts, what you directly wear on your body is crucial for your comfort. You may not think of wool! But Merino sheep's wool has a lot of unique features that make it very suitable as a basic material for (functional) underwear.
This makes Merinowol's clothing extremely soft thanks to its extremely long and thin fiber.
Merinowol regulates body temperature naturally by absorbing or releasing moisture depending on the conditions.
Because wool, as opposed to cotton and synthetic fibers, generates heat as soon as it becomes wet, wool provides extra heat in cold, humid weather conditions. Under warm conditions, wool will control body temperature due to the excellent breathability of wool. Adjacent air is the best insulator. Nomad produced its first sleeping bag in 1978 and has successfully used the 3D-Helixthermo® filling developed in-house ever since. The filling consists of extremely hollow bi-component fibres. A bi-component fibre comprises two different types of polyester. One type of polyester shrinks faster than another as it cools down during the processing phase. A natural curl develops thanks to the
unequal shrinkage of the polyester types. This ensures that the fibre remains resilient and can always return to its original state even under extreme conditions. A filling that returns to its original shape and therefore keeps its volume can retain its insulation value longer. 3D-Helixthermo® is also a hollow fibre. Hollow fibres provide better insulation than solid fibres because there is more room for stationary air, and stationary air means insulation. They are also lighter than solid fibres and have a smaller packing volume. The 3D-Helixthermo® fibre is hollow for 30%. Other existing fibres are hollow for a maximum of 20%. This indicates that 3D-Helixthermo® provides greater insulation as well as a lower weight. 3D-Helixthermo® offers an outstanding solution to the disadvantages of down fillings. Moisture has no effect on the insulation value of a 3D-Helixthermo® filling. In addition, 3D-Helixthermo® has a tremendous recovery capacity that allows the filling to return to its original state even after exposure to extreme heat, cold or pressure. 3D-Helixthermo® is also non-allergenic, easy to wash and maintain.

3D-Polardown® (own development)
In the world of sleeping bags it is always a difficult to decide whether to use a down or synthetic filling. Why not combine both?
We developed a filling that does have the best of both. 3D-Polardown® consists of both a down fiber treated with a hydrophobic treatment and a 3D synthetic hollow fiber. This combination makes the filling super lightweight, perfectly insulating, and is able to handle moisture very well. The filling is soft, flexible and compact due to the down part, but strong and less expensive due to the synthetic part. Furthermore, the strong synthetic fiber keeps the down on its place. So, no worry for cold-spots anymore!
The benefits of 3D-Polardown®
The Nomad clothing collection has become even more technical by the use of drirelease® fabrics. These contain a patented blend of 85-90% synthetic, hydrophobic (water repelling) fibers and 10-15% natural, hydrophilic (water absorbing) fibers. This built-in combination efficiently pulls moisture and perspiration away from the skin and pushes it to the exterior of the fabric where it can evaporate quickly. This eco-friendly solution keeps you cool, dry, fresh and comfortable.

Polygiene prevents the growth of odor-causing bacteria and fungi at the source, permanently. This result is created by using low concentrations of silver salt, also known as silver chloride, which has antimicrobial properties and is naturally present in water and soil, to safely eliminate the ability for bacteria and fungi to grow.
At the finishing stages of the production, the permanent treatment is being applied to the sleeping bag. Because the Polygiene technology is bound and permanently integrated in the sleeping bags’ fabric it will not wash out.

When looking at our tents collection, our Dutch roots can be recognized by the use of cotton in our tent fabrics. The so called ‘AIR series’ have the highest breathable qualities in combination with the typical advantages of the partly used polyester fibre.

Our focus for the newly designed AIR series has been aimed towards ‘LIGHT’. We maximized the size of the windows, so whether you sit down or stand upright, you’ll be able to enjoy a perfect view of the surrounding. With
comfort still being our primary focus, we designed many practical features such as a dry side entrance, short pole sleeves for easy set-up, garment poles with organisers and many more.
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is recognised as the world's leading processing standard for textiles made from organic fibres. It defines high-level environmental criteria along the entire organic textiles supply chain and requires compliance with social criteria as well.
Only textile products that contain a minimum of 70% organic fibres can become GOTS certified. All chemical inputs such as dyestuffs and auxiliaries used must meet certain environmental and toxicological criteria. The choice of accessories is limited in accordance with ecological aspects as well. A functional waste water treatment plant is mandatory for any wet-processing unit involved and all processors must comply with minimum social criteria.

Along with recognizing our own individual responsibility, we further publicly and actively support industry and societal change and encourage cooperation towards the elimination of hazardous chemicals in textile manufacturing. In regard to our goal to become PFC-free until 2020, we have a close cooperation with leading industry experts such as bluesign®, as well as suppliers of PFC-free technologies including Huntsman, Rudolf Chemie and Teflon and our ingredient partners like Gore to find joint solutions. Moreover, we actively ask and continuously push all our partners to accelerate the move towards non-PFC technologies. When PFCs are still used, we strongly encourage responsible PFC management, meaning collection of wastewater in safe canisters and safely burning residuals in all our bluesign® member partners.

As a part of our transparency commitment, we want our users to be able to make informed choices. Communication on hangtags, washing instructions, or through sales people in our shops are key areas for this, where we plan increased clarity over the coming seasons. PFCs have an outstanding performance when it comes to extreme water-repellency and simultaneous breathability on high altitude, that’s why we use it in our most technical lines. But many users who buy water repellent products use them for day-trekkings. Under these circumstances our selected PFC-free water repellency show great performance, are more than enough, and are assumed better for human health and the environment. Therefore, if you are not going on technically advanced, long excursions on high-altitude, we encourage you to choose a PFC-free style.
